Weather Summary

A warm, humid flow of air will set the stage for heavy rainfall in Baltimore and Washington tonight through Friday afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon are in the lower 80s. Meanwhile, a cold front will cross the mountains during the afternoon and evening hours. As the front clashes with the warm, humid air in place over central Maryland, widespread rain showers and thundershowers will develop. 1 to 2 inches of rainfall can be expected, but isolated locations may receive 3 to 4 inches of rainfall by Friday afternoon. Areal flooding may occur due to the heavy rain falling over a short period. The cold front will continue to move from west to east across Chesapeake Bay on Friday. Widespread showers and thundershowers will continue across the region with heavy rain possible in some areas. Showers with isolated thundershowers may persist into the evening hours on Friday before drier and cooler air moves in from the west. Saturday will begin with some residual cloudiness, but sunshine will return for the balance of the day. It will be breezy at times on Saturday with afternoon highs reaching the upper 60s to lower 70s. Sunday will start off on the cool side with readings in the upper 40s to lower 50s, but a sunny afternoon can be expected with highs in the upper 60s.
