Subtropical high pressure is providing Baltimore and Washington with plenty of sunshine and very warm temperatures today. The center of the high is off the Atlantic seaboard near North Carolina. A clockwise flow around the high is bringing warm and humid conditions to Maryland for the first time this season. Thermometer readings will climb into the mid 80s across the area by later this afternoon. Isolated thundershowers are possible, but most areas will remain dry. Overnight, a warm front will lift north and a cold front will follow. The passage of these fronts may produce scattered showers during the overnight hours. Another hot and humid day can be expected on Tuesday with highs once again reaching the mid and perhaps upper 80s. Meanwhile, a "backdoor" cold front will move toward our area during the afternoon and evening hours. This front may spark a few showers and thunderstorms by late Tuesday into Tuesday evening. As this front begins to lift back up to our north on Wednesday, and another cold front sweeps across the area later in the day, considerable cloudiness and showers can be expected on Wednesday along with cooler temperatures. This front may linger around the area on Thursday and Friday with additional showers and thundershowers. Looking ahead to this weekend, cool high pressure will become established over the Middle Atlantic region with abundant sunshine. Highs on Saturday will be in the lower 70s and highs on Sunday will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Lows by Sunday morning may drop into the upper 40s in outlying areas and lower 50s elsewhere.
