A spring snowfall is coming to an end in Washington and Baltimore. Snow had a difficult time accumulating today due to temperatures in the mid to upper 30s and the high angle of the March sun. Snow fell steadily from late morning through the afternoon hours, with no accumulation. After a brief lull, snow began to fall again from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. with up to an inch covering unpaved surfaces. The snow has now ended west of Chesapeake Bay, but moderate to heavy snow is falling over Delmarva where a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for some places. Snow is falling all the way to the Atlantic coast and many areas will receive 3 to 6 inches of accumulation before the precipitation ends later this evening. During the overnight hours we can expect a clearing sky, but it will be windy and cold with temperatures falling into the mid and upper 20s by morning. This may result in icy conditions in some places. The storm will continue to intensify, but will move to the northeast and brush coastal Massachusetts and Maine with snow on Wednesday. Although the impact of the storm in the Baltimore and Washington area was minimal, this was the third accumulating snow in the month of March. Improving conditions are expected on Wednesday with more sunshine, although it will be windy and cold with a high only in the upper 30s. The average high for this time of year is in the upper 50s.
