Weather Summary

The first day of spring in the Middle Atlantic states featured a mostly sunny sky with seasonable temperatures as highs reach the 50s. It was breezy at times which added a bit of a chill to the air, but compared to recent weather this was a welcome change that offered hope for the spring season. High pressure will build over the area during the remainder of the evening. Temperatures in Baltimore and Washington at 10 p.m. are in the mid 40s on average, and the mercury will only drop a few more degrees by morning. Meanwhile, a warm front tomorrow will set the stage for a very pleasant Friday and Saturday with highs in the 50s to lower 60s and overnight lows in the 40s. Some locations may reach 65 to 70 on Saturday as warm air surges north in advance of a cold front. On Sunday, a cold front will move from west to east across the region and colder air will overspread the area from the northwest. This will drop daytime highs from the 60s on Saturday to the 40s on Sunday. There may be a few light rain showers on Sunday as a weak wave of low pressure moves to our south. By Monday, a fresh surge of arctic air will plunge into the East and our attention will be turned to the south where computer models are indicating the potential for a spring snowstorm from North Carolina to Maine. There is still some disagreement about the exact track of the storm (one track would take the Low out to sea, whereas another would take the Low up the eastern seaboard.) However, there is now consensus that there will indeed be a storm on Monday and Tuesday that will form to our south.
