A cold front will push through the area this afternoon and evening, sparking widespread showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures this afternoon are running about 10 degrees cooler than this time yesterday when temperatures soared into the mid 90s in Baltimore and Washington. Thermometer readings this afternoon are hovering around 80 degrees under clouds and sunshine. Scattered thunderstorms will continue into the evening hours, some of which may be severe with heavy rain, gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and localized flooding. In the wake of the cold front, a northerly wind will result in sunny and cooler conditions on Friday with lower humidity. Highs will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s. The frontal system to our south and east will remain close to the area, and will keep the chance for thundershowers in the forecast through the weekend.
