Washington DC ranked the healthiest city in America

Washington DC is the healthiest city in America. At least that's what the American College of Sports Medicine says. According to ACSM, D.C. tops the list this year as the fittest and healthiest city in the U.S. The city, which is home of the White House, dethroned Minneapolis-St. Paul which held the top spot for the last three years. It is drops to number 2.

ACSM used the most current publicly available data from federal reports and past studies to help come up with their annual American Fitness Index of the 50 largest metropolitan areas in America. Health and community/environmental health indicators such as eating habits, physical activity, health problems, recreational facilities and parkland were just some of the factors taken into account to provide a score for each city. Portland, Denver and San Francisco ranked in at number 3-5 respectively. Chicago ranked in at number 15. You could view the full rankings at For more information on this story, visit
