On September 7, 2013, at 7 pm, Washington, D.C. took a break from the politics and football that usually marks the first weekend in September, to celebrate the launch of what is sure to be a successful, new liqueur line at Layla Lounge. Erotique Liqueur ( pronounced erotic), the new tropical fruit and vodka infused liqueur, is as smooth and enticing as the long black matte and gold embroidered bottle that holds it. Equally as sleek, was the grand launch event celebrating the accomplishments of owner, Trey Wheat, a Howard University graduate, former mixologist, author, and entrepreneur. Vivica A. Fox and Laz Alonso, also the perfect combination of smooth and enticing, served as the hostess and host for the Erotique Liqueur launch party. Complete with a black carpet, amazing bartenders, an ice luge, and an original drink list that featured Erotique Liqueur in some of its most desirable combinations, guests were able in indulge in an environment where sophistication and flirtation were not only encouraged, but expected.
Anything less would seem like a disservice to the brand, as the man behind everything Erotique, Trey Wheat, 37, has been enhancing parties, events, and lives through creative spirit combinations for over10 years. It is obvious upon tasting Erotique that this was not a fly by night plan. Absent is the highly artificial and saccharine taste that other liqueurs carry, the packaging and actual color of the liqueur appeals to both men and women, and the taste is the perfect combination of liquor and chaser, so it is enjoyable served simply over ice. Trey explains further, “It has been a dream, 9 years in the making, to bring this unique drinking experience to the market and now it is here. I’m excited and want to invite everyone to Experience Everlasting Euphoria with Erotique”. Besides serving some of the most unique flavors as a mixologist and founder of BarStars Bartender, a service that provides licensed bartenders for events throughout the country, Wheat authored I lost my Job…and 99 Other Reasons To Drink, a refreshing and updated take on drink recipe books, complete with reasons to drink them. Upon chatting with Trey, it becomes clear that the dedication, industry knowledge, and ambitious passion he places into every move of the Erotique brand will ensure success for years to come.
On why he chose DC:
“This is the first city and the very first night ever. The first time the public has ever tasted it… I’ve been here 17 years and I have a pretty good understanding of the market and what is going on. I thought, ‘Where better than somewhere I totally understood'. ”
On finding time to start Erotique:
“…I went from bartending to a bartending service, then I decided to branch out on my own. So I left the corporate world and just focused on this…Actually I had some guidance. One of my partners owns a liquor brand so he walked me through the steps from A-Z."
On finding the funding and reaching out through social media, and its reception:
“It took me 6 or 7 years to find the funding…Social Media…You have to find someone that believes in you and is also a risk taker, and once you do it’s a perfect match.”
On if he is single, and does he have time for anything else?
“I’m married to Erotique. (No time for anything else?) Getting Erotique.”
Where can we buy Erotique?
