Was 'Young and the Restless' star Michael Muhney fired for sexual harassment?

New information came to light today, Sat., Jan. 4, about the recent firing of "Young and the Restless" star Michael Muhney (Adam), which Riverside Soaps reported on back in mid December.

While the firing of soap stars is certainly not a rare occurrence, it's usually for differences of opinion about story line or because the show is looking to recast with a different or more popular actor; however, it seems the reasons for Muhney's firing could allegedly be more sinister than first believed.

Tabloid web site is reporting today, "38-year-old Muhney allegedly bullied and harassed 20-year-old Hunter King, who plays Summer on the show. She went to higher-ups and complained recently Muhney had fondled her breasts on 2 occasions -- and she said both were unsolicited and unwanted."

Muhney conducted an exit interview with Nelson Branco of HuffPost Canada TV, and while Muhney said nothing that would even hint at sexual harassment against Hunter King being a factor in his dismissal, he did seem to indicate more than once that he regretted some of his behavior on set.

When asked what the official reason for his departure was when he was let go by Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps, Muhney told Branco, "part of me feels this is because I've always been outspoken, and sometimes I've been too outspoken. Sometimes I've walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me. CBS, Sony, and Jill Phelps are not to blame for that. If I'm going to claim to be a grown man, I have to own that. But it could be financial or story."

Branco also questioned Muhney on his well-known differences with co-star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), which, after a lengthy and seemingly smoke-screen response about wishing to emulate former co-star Maura West's professional and dignified departure, his only response about Braeden was "if there were disagreements in the past with Eric, for me, it has to be history."

While Muhney and his people have been silent on the accusations, a comment is circulating around various soap message boards and from fans on Twitter which was purportedly posted on Facebook by Muhney's sister, Kate Muhney Joeckel; however, it hasn't been verified whether it actually originated from Joeckel officially or a fan-created account impersonating Joeckel.

The quote reads, "As Michael Muhney's sister all I have to say is that nobody should believe what you read or hear. Only Michael knows the truth. And there is no truth to the rumors flying around. My brother is incredible and will go on to do something bigger and better and look back at Y & R as a learning experience. He has class and grace like no one else in the business. Nobody will ever replace him as Adam but all of you fans out there ... thank you for your support of my amazing brother and keep your eyes open to see him in much bigger, better roles. Very much appreciated. Thank you from the Muhney family."

Fans have been in an uproar since the news first broke of the alleged harassment, either showing support and an utter disbelief at the allegations or angry outrage that King may have been a victim.

Michael Muhney, who played the role of Adam Newman on "The Young and the Restless," initially took to his Twitter account on Dec. 17 to announce he had been let go from the sudser, filming his last scenes two days later. His last air date is Jan. 30.

Hunter King has also made no comment or official statement about the allegations as of this writing.
