Was ‘The Bachelorette: Men Tell All’ speed date with Chris Soules staged?

Andi Dorfman’s season of “The Bachelorette” is winding down, and on Monday she faced her rejected suitors in the show’s penultimate “Men Tell All” episode. But the live taping took an unusual turn with a live ultrasound for expectant show alum’s Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, followed by an impromptu speed date with ousted bachelor Chris Soules.

According to a July 21 report from TV Guide, Soules, the hunky farmer from Iowa, was stunned when a female audience member interrupted the taping to come up on stage and ask him for a date. The backstage update detailed that the bold audience member, a woman named Khatera, told Soules she came to the taping alone in the hopes of meeting him.

After the show, Soules told TV Guide, "I was sitting there and talking to Chris [Harrison] and kept hearing, 'Chris!' I thought, I'll wait for Chris Harrison to acknowledge this because I don't know what's going on and I need to focus on what I'm saying, so finally he stopped it and [acknowledged it] and she came down. I was totally caught off guard."

Longtime show host Chris Harrison initiated a “speed date” between the two as the show went to commercial break, and yes, digits were exchanged. But Soules remained mum on whether he’ll call his admirer or not.

Of course, the 32-year-old Iowa farmer is one of the frontrunners to become the next star of “The Bachelor,” and he’s already gone on record as saying he’d jump at the chance to court 25 women on the ABC dating show, telling Yahoo TV it would be a “no-brainer” for him.

“They certainly haven't asked me. No one official has even mentioned it,” Soules revealed to Yahoo. “If they did, I think it would be a no-brainer for me, because I would never meet those kind of girls in my town of 700. It's a unique opportunity to meet 25 women who are interested in me and my lifestyle and who already know they'd have to move to Iowa. “

If Soules is indeed signed for the winter cycle of the show, it would also be a no-brainer for producers to bring in Khatera as one of his contestants. Chris Harrison contends that he had no knowledge that there would be a “Men Tell All” crasher beforehand, but he did tell Zap 2 It that producers would definitely look her up if Soules is selected as the next “Bachelor” star.

“The Bachelorette” finale airs on Monday, July 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
