Was Life Sentence too Easy for Woman Who Killed Pregnant Friend and Stole Baby?

The twisted plot that was engineered by Julie Corey who murdered her pregnant friend and stole her baby came to a conclusion when she was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison. The Massachusetts woman killed her friend 23-year-old Darlene Haynes in 2009 and literally cut the baby out of her womb from her lifeless body, according to Fox News.

It is hard to suspend the type of horror that gripped her parents who were confronted in 2009 with the news that their daughter had been murdered and her baby was missing. The pain of those probable memories were seemingly apparent in the courtroom as murdered victim Haynes’ father held her ashes and spoke to the court, reported Fox News.

The 39-year-old murderer did not testify to the deed in court but the prosecution certainly had more than enough to say about the mind chilling deed. District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. stressed, “This woman was killed for her baby,” reported Fox News. He added, ‘It’s probably the most horrific case this office has ever seen,” said Fox News.

Unfortunately, these type of crimes appear all too often across the nation and often the assailant of the murder victim ends up being a close friend, or associate or even a person who has recently befriended the dead pregnant mother.

Corey’s defense attorney claims that the police did not follow-up leads that could have led authorities to others who may have been complicit in the murder. Seems like a moot point since both Corey and her boyfriend, “were found with the dead mother’s baby days later at a homeless shelter in Plymouth, N.H.,” reported Fox News.
