Was Lena Dunham’s Emmy gown a hit or a miss?

Actress Lena Dunham made quite a stir as she hit the red carpet at the Emmys on Monday August 25, just prior to the screening of the awards, showing up in a tutu gown with tonnes of colorful ruffles…

Dunham had cheekily tweeted earlier in the day “Expert beauty tip: prepare for the Emmys by enjoying some huevos rancheros and allowing your hair to marinate in its own natural oils.” Whatever works Lena – despite some criticism about her choice of gown, she looked great!

The 28-year-old star HBO series Girls star made quite a splash in her pink and red Giambattista Valli gown, which was more of a two-piece creation comprising a pale pink silk taffeta sleeveless blouse, paired with a ombré shaded ruffled tulle skirt in shades of pink, watermelon red and crimson. Lena completed her unique look with Valli heels and jewels by Fred Leighton jewelry. The actress was also sporting her new platinum blonde hair, which one has to admit suits her.

Boyfriend Jack Antonoff, 30, who is the lead guitarist for indie rock band Fun, shone on the red carpet in his spiffy Prada tuxedo. Dunham and Antonoff began dating back in 2012, though Lena has reportedly stated that she will not tie the knot until same-sex marriage is legalized…

Lena was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Girls, which she created and also writes for. Her competition included Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Edie Falco, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler and Taylor Schilling. Lena regrettably lost to Louis-Dreyfus, who won her third Emmy in a row for her work on HBO’s Veep.

After the awards, Lena mixed it up at the HBO's Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Post Awards Reception at The Plaza at the Pacific Design Center. She stood out in her tutu gown at the reception and apparently had a great time, as she had posted a picture of herself on her Instagram account, passed out on her bed (looked like a hotel room!), face-first, still dressed in the fluttery gown, perhaps in utter exhaustion, following the events of the day.

Lena wrote, “Thank you @giambattistapr for the dress of my #dreams.” She had obviously worn what she loved – regardless of what others thought. Enjoy the video of Lena Dunham and others at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards...
