Was drug lab at center of hotel blast?

Authorities were continuing their investigation Wednesday afternoon into a blast at a San Diego hotel earlier in the day that left three people injured.

According to a San Diego Union-Tribune report, the blast happened around 11 a.m. at the Heritage Inn on Channel Way off of Sports Arena Blvd. Police reported that one male was covered in flames, while two other individuals also suffered injuries.

One report from San Diego's Fire and Rescue Department claimed that a 21-year-old male stated he and a female in her 20's were using meth in their hotel room just prior to their room exploding. The pair, along with another individual, were all transported to UC San Diego Medical Center's burn unit.

Personnel with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration were brought to the scene to investigate firefighters' suspicion that the explosion was the result of an illicit methamphetamine production setup.

The Heritage Inn is located only minutes away from a number of well-known San Diego sites, including Mission Bay, Downtown San Diego, the Gaslamp District, Mission Beach, Convention Center, and Balboa Park.
