The congregation of Warwick Assembly of God in Hampton are no strangers to acts of kindness. According to Pastor TJ Wolfe, this assembly has a quarterly "Acts of Kindness Day," during which the congregation participates in various activities to show their love and support to the community. In the past, the activities have included lawn maintenance, leaf raking, and water bottle distribution.
The next Acts of Kindness Day meets a different kind of need.
What do we do with the credit card offers we get in the mail? How do we handle our old tax papers or the old bank statements and check carbons? If we're like most people, our fear of identity theft sends us in droves to department stores with the purpose of purchasing a personal shredder. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2008 an estimated 11.7 million persons, representing 5% of persons age 16 or older in the United States, experienced at least one attempted or successful incident of identity theft during a 2-year period.
On October 29, the assembly will host a Community Shred Day at 1228 Todds Lane in Hampton between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Eggleston Services will be on-hand to securely collect all of those papers you would otherwise spend hours shredding in your little personal shredder. For more information about Eggleston's Secure Shredding, please visit http://www.egglestonservices.org/doc_mgmt.htm.
Representatives from the local chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) will also be available during the event to answer any questions you may have about your personal records.
If you have additional questions about this event, contact Warwick Assembly of God at 757-826-3000.
