WARRIORS CONQUEST II, a Ghost Town Promotions event held at the Longmont Athletic Club in Longmont, provided fight fans with an exciting and entertaining 8 bout fight card that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
Add to that excitement the Special Guest appearance of Denver’s Mike ‘303’ Alvarado (currently in preparation for his highly anticipated rematch with Brandon Rios on March 30th in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino) who thanked the crowd for “supporting this show and the up and coming stars of Colorado” and the evening was ripe with enthusiasm that would be validated.
Beginning with two kickboxing matches and ending with an action packed Main Event, Raul Utajara (owner of Longmont Boxing Club) continues his string of quality matchmaking.
Kickboxing action had Longmont’s Noe Escobar defeating Boulder's Allen Davis by unanimous decision, and in a contest featuring two females Denver’s Desiree Guttierrez defeated Longmont’s Melissa Leyba by unanimous decision.
Boxing action began with Nebraskan Rene Marquez rendering Denver’s Lynel Burton unable to answer the bell for round 3 of a scheduled 145 pound 4 round bout.
Denver’s David Escamilla displayed a fantastic left hook that had New Mexico’s Jesus Pacheco down in round 3, leading to his unanimous decision 125 pound win of a scheduled 4 rounder.
Colorado Springs resident Carlos Ibarra (trained by local boxing legend Dickie Wood) had Kansas representative Michael Glenn down three times in round 4, that bout stopped with 2:58 gone in the round of a scheduled 5 round 189 pound battle.
In an exciting 137 pound 5 round bout that was as close to Main Event action as one could ask for, Denver residents Daniel Calzada and Marcos Herrera battled back and forth, Calzada getting the nod on all three judge’s scorecards.
The semi-Main event had Fort Collins native John Ryan Grimaldo just too strong and determined to allow Denver’s Juan Santiago the chance to ever get started, Grimaldo getting the impressive 5th round TKO win in a scheduled 8 round contest at 145 pounds where Grimaldo improves to 9-2, 6 KO's and Santiago drops to 13-10-1, 8 KO's.
The Main Event had a battle of epic proportions at 145 pounds as Cesar ‘The Rattlesnake’ Holguin from Grand Junction and Longmont fan favorite Raul ‘El Chino’ Carrillo went the distance giving all they had in their 8 round contest, Carrillo getting the split decision win with scores of 77-75 (Carrillo), 76-75 (Holguin) and 79-73 (Carrillo).
With the win Carrillo improves to 11-1, 6 KO's and the game Holguin drops to 9-4-1, 3 KO's.
