The Golden State Warriors announced late Wednesday night that they have acquired point guard Steve Blake from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks.

Blake has appeared in only 27 games this season, averaging 9.5 points and career-highs of 7.6 assists and 1.3 steals. The 11-year veteran missed 26 games earlier this season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and just returned to action on Feb. 4.

Blake will primarily back up All-Star Stephen Curry at point guard. When both are on the court, Curry will be shifted to shooting guard.

“The acquisition of Steve Blake will provide us with additional veteran depth at point guard as we enter the stretch run of the season,” said Warriors General Manager Bob Myers. “He’s had a productive career and is a player who can both run an offense and has the ability to shoot the basketball.”

In 703 career games, Blake is averaging 7.0 points and 4.1 assists. Blake, who will be joining his seventh NBA team, is a career 39.0 percent 3-point shooter.

Bazemore averaged 2.3 points and 6.1 minutes in 44 games with the Warriors this season. Brooks, acquired in the Jordan Crawford trade, averaged 1.9 points and 2.1 minutes in seven appearances.

“We thank Kent and MarShon for their contributions to our team both on and off the court and wish them success as they enter the next stage of their careers,” said Myers.

Blake is expected to play his first game with the Warriors on Thursday night when the Warriors take on the Houston Rockets at Oracle Arena.
