Temperatures Monday only reached the mid-70s, the first below normal high temperature in Rockford in 10 days, since a 75 degree high on August 22nd. This was a far cry of the 96 degree high observed on Friday, which was Rockford’s highest temperatures of 2013. Another below normal day is expected today as highs will be a few degrees below the normal of around 80. This will be the first back to back below normal days since August 14th/15th. The pull back in temperatures is to be only temporary as warmer weather will be pushing back into the region through the rest of the week and into the weekend, with increased humidity.
August closed with only 2.92 inches of rain on the books, which is 1.67 inches below normal. The final 25 days in Rockford saw only 3 days with measurable rain, which included two streaks of 9 and 6 days with not even a Trace of rain. Unfortunately September looks to start dry and warm, just like August ended. Temperatures will be on the rise through the week and peaking with highs near 90 by Saturday. We should see 5 spectacularly sunny and dry days.
Humidity will be on the increase later this week and highs will climb to near 80 and into the middle 80s by Friday. High will be near 90 on Saturday, with a slight chance of scatter storms late. Our next chance of any organized rain doesn’t come until very early next week with a cold front.
