The pleasant warm winter weather that has affected much of California as well as most of the United States will continue through the next week, with no pattern changes foreseeable in the future according to the latest weather model guidance. In addition to the warm conditions that continue for San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, we do see a chance for some much needed rainfall across the Bay area.
The GFS weather model has a bit more moisture with a trough coming down from the Pacific Northwest Wednesday that could bring a few tenths of an inch of rain to most of the region. The GFS mode is more potent in bringing some energy down from the northwest compared to the NAM weather model which is suggesting little to no rainfall staying north of the area. The NAM model also keeps high pressure off the coast a bit stronger than the GFS model. It will be interesting to see how these two scenarios play out, as one model will eventually come in alignment with the other… the question is which one? I think it’s confident to say that we can at least put a chance of rain for Wednesday in the forecast.
The long range weather forecast doesn’t look too much different than what we have been seeing the past few weeks. The jet stream still north of the San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland area with occasional wet weather systems impacting every week or so. High pressure off the western coast of California will also help keep precipitation north of us. Warm temperatures above average will continue.
