This weekend’s box office was all about the zombies. ‘Warm Bodies,’ a farcical take on zombie movies that mirrors Romeo and Juliet, came in at number one with a $20 million take. Between this movie, next weekend’s return of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC and the much anticipated ‘World War Z,’ which opens later this year, it seems that zombies have topped vampires as the ghouls of the moment.
‘Warm Bodies’ leans more toward a tweenage romance than a horror movie, and it is a refreshing spin on zombie lore. Rather than watching a bunch of undead people slowly creeping along looking for brains, this movie focuses more on what happens when a zombie begins to come back from the dead as he falls in love with a girl – hey, it could happen. Horror fans will appreciate the undead moments in the movie, while romance fans will fall for the love story. This movie successfully bridges the gap between those who like darker movies and those who are more into happy endings.
Starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer, ‘Warm Bodies’ is a fun, light-hearted movie that is very entertaining. With likeable leads and a goofy spin on a typical premise, this movie is well acted and fun to watch. ‘Warm Bodies’ is currently playing at several theaters in the Denver metro area, including AMC Highlands Ranch 24 and Harkins Theater in Northfield, among others. If you are in the mood for a light, funny romantic spin on typical zombie fare, check it out. If you have a Valentine with a sense of humor, give her some chocolate covered brains and take her to see this film.
