Today’s Weather Synopsis…

A warm and steamy air mass will be ushered northward into the region today ahead of an approaching frontal boundary that will bring showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.

An even warmer and more humid air mass will continue to be ushered into the region today as a return south-southwesterly flow surges plenty of moist air northward around high pressure situated just offshore. A strong cap of warm air aloft and lack of a significant triggering mechanism should keep convection to a minimum today despite increasing instability.

A cold front will approach from the Great Lakes early on Saturday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms returning to the forecast as the front moves through. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the region in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms, which is a 15% probability of severe weather within 25 miles of a point. At this time, strong gusty winds appear to be the primary threat, along with heavy downpours. Drier and much cooler weather will arrive in the wake of the frontal boundary for the second half of the weekend and into early next week.
