Breaking on The Hollywood Reporter website, Blizzard's Warcraft universe is on its way to live-action on the big screen with the confirmation of Duncan Jones as the film's director. Joystiq has separate confirmation, and a tweet from Jones all but confirms his involvement as well.

Jones, the only son of famed musician David Bowie, has previously directed the sci-fi thriller Source Code and the low-budget space drama Moon. The movie, simply slated Warcraft, will be Jones' first large-budget film, budgeted for over $100 million in recent estimates, with Legendary Film Studios footing most of the bill. This far outweighs his previous film Source Code's budget of $35 million.
The script, while kept under heavy wraps, was written by Charles Leavitt, writer of Blood Diamond and K-PAX, among other films, and is set to be produced by Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, and Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Stuart Fenegan, Jones' producing partner, will be the executive producer with Chris Metzen co-producing for Blizzard.
Warcraft is expected to begin filming in Fall 2013 to be ready for a 2015 release. With some 16 million worldwide players of the latest incarnation of the games, World of Warcraft, Warcraft is set to possibly break through the "Video Game to Movie" barrier that so many other studios have failed to pass.
