Warby Parker helps a million

One million. It’s a big number that gets tossed about like it is nothing these days, but it is so much more than nothing. This is especially true if you happen to be one of the one million people who have benefitted from the Warby Parker buy-a-pair-give-a-pair program. For someone who needs eyeglasses but either can’t afford them or has no access to such resources, getting a pair can make all the difference in the world; the difference between an out of focus and therefore unproductive and unemployable existence and one where the opportunities presented can be seen clearly and taken advantage of.

Helping the world see clearly is central to what Warby Parker does, and as of this summer, they have helped a one million people do just that. As you can (hopefully) imagine, being able to see clearly is a very big deal. I know when I noticed that my vision started to get a bit fuzzy a while back that it had a big impact on every part of my existence. I could no longer read all that tiny print on medicine bottles and street signs were becoming a bit of a challenge. I was fortunate to not only have access to just about any pair of glasses I wanted, I had the scratch to make the necessary purchase as well as the insurance to help defray the cost. Sadly, I am in a tiny minority.

The buy-a-pair-give-a-pair program impact:

  • helped 18.000 people get trained to give basic eye exams and sell affordable glasses within their communities
  • made it possible for their nonprofit partners to distribute glasses in 36 countries
  • glasses increase productivity by 35% and monthly income by 20%
  • the economic impact of 1 million glasses is $200,000,000

Though there is still a long way to go before everyone who needs glasses can get them, there’s a million people who have already benefitted from this program and Warby Parker is showing no signs of giving up any time soon. It took Warby Parker three years to achieve their goal of helping the first 500,000 get glasses and only 11 months for them to help the second half million. If you are feeling the need for some stylish and incredibly inexpensive, but highly robust eyewear, you should click on through to the Warby Parker site to see what they have. Your eyes will thank you, and so will the next million people Warby Parker helps with your help.
