War and Edgar Winter appearing at House of Blues

War and Edgar Winter will be appearing at the House of Blues on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at 9 p.m.  (The House of Blues is located in the Showboat Hotel Casino, 801 Boardwalk.)

War, originally Eric Burdon and War, is an American so-called "funk" band from California.  Folks who came of age in the 60s and 70s will best remember them from hits such as Spill the Wine, The Cisco Kid (see featured video clip) and Why Can't We Be Friends?  Their distinctive "funk" sound comes from the blending of soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae and rock music into their own inimitable style.

The band continued to tour in the 70s and 80s.  The band reformed in 1983 with most of the surviving original members.  In 2008, Eric Burdon returned to the band for the first time in 37 years for a concert at Royal Albert Hall in London.  There were actually rumors that Eric Burdon would rejoin the band as a permanent member in 2009, but it never came to fruition.  War has sold over 50 million records worldwide.  (Continue reading below)

Edgar Winter is a songwriter, producer and  artist, well-versed in the genres of blues, jazz and rock music.  He is best known for his 1973 hit Frankenstein, appearing on the album They Only Come Out at Night, performed by the Edgar Winter Group.  Albert, along with his older brother Johnny Winter, a world-renknowned R&B guitar player, are albinos, which accounts for their somewhat unique appearance and the ever-present sunglasses.  A musical child prodgy, Edgar mastered many instruments including piano, keyboards, saxophone, marimba, timbales, clavinet, synthesizer and guitar.  He also sings vocals.

Edgar's latest album is Rebel Road.  He toured Europe in 2011 with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band.  You can catch up with all the latest on Edgar Winter at his web site.
