War against deadly drug cartels claims more innocent victims

The war raging in Mexico against the deadly drug cartels may have taken another innocent life. The police chief of a border town fraught with violence and bloody deaths has disappeared.

Roberto Alejandro Balmori Garza disappeared for Nuevo Laredo, one of most violent border towns. A federal prosecutor reported that the chances of finding Garza alive are diminishing.

Two of Garza’s brothers were found shot to death in neighboring Nuevo Leon. As of yet, the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s office has not confirmed the death of the two men.

Local officials are said to be so afraid of the increased drug cartel violence that they are reluctant to reveal any of the murder investigations details. The Attorney General’s office stated they are focusing on searching for Garza.

The office of the attorney general stated in a new release that they “instructed a delegation in Nuevo Laredo to correspond to the respective authorities to establish the collection of information leading to determining the city official’s whereabouts.”

Garza’s disappearance is one of a long list of police chiefs and officials who have either disappeared or been murdered in the violent border town of Nuevo Laredo. One of the most brutal drug cartels, the Los Zetas makes it home in Nuevo Laredo.

Nuevo Laredo is located on the banks of the Rio Grande just south of Laredo, Texas. Los Zetas conducts their bloody, violent business in at least 11 states of Mexico and is the instigator behind a violent turf war with the rival Gulf Cartel gang.
