Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years, and currently, close to 11 million Americans are enjoying its health benefits. The benefits of yoga are numerous. From improved flexibility, enhanced breathing and posture, to better balance and stronger muscles, yoga has much to offer to all participants, young and old, male and female. One Charlotte woman, Alissa Carter, became passionate for yoga when she was a teenager. Inspired by her own grandmother to practice the ancient form of exercise, Alissa discovered yoga helped relieve stress, increased her strength and stamina as well as helped her combat her battle with a debilitating case of chronic vertigo.
After having 3 children, Alissa found herself once again not only battling health issues, but with an additional 90 pounds of unwanted weight. Through her daily practice of yoga, she was able to lose the weight and return to a healthier state of mind and body. She decided to take her practice to the next level and began to practice with a very accomplished Indian Yogi master teacher. She went on to get a national certification and began to teach classes at Sangrock Yoga.
Today her passion for yoga and her genuine desire to help others has led her to start her own business as a home based yoga instructor. She offers her clients the opportunity to grow and discover their own yoga experience in the quiet environment of their own home with one-on-one instruction and encouragement. "I love and am committed to the confidence I can install in my students on their own personal level to help them to progress in their fitness goals. This would include helping them to overcome any obstacles with physical, energetic and spiritual growth. I spend time focusing on helping the individual to gain knowledge, ability ,and confidence", Alissa says.
