Want to see the Citizens United decision go away?

"A failure to rise up—which is what the corporate state is counting upon—will see us enslaved." ~~Chris Hedges, "The Last Gasp of American Democracy"

A coalition of groups are working together to get the New York State Legislature to pass a resolution to call on Congress to pass an amendment to the Constitution to overturn the Citizens United decision. That decision allows corporations to spend as much as they wish on electioneering propaganda. The resolution effort is currently focused on the NY Senate, and now is the time to contact your NY State Senator to ask him to support this resolution.

For more information, view a video of yours truly speaking about the need to overturn the Citizens United v FEC decision before the Cortland League of Women Voters last year. Just click here. My presentation is only 15 minutes long.

If you agree that we need to amend the Constitution to make it clear that only people, not properties, have constitutional rights and that money spent on electioneering should be regulated, please contact your state Senator today. In the Syracuse area, the two state Senators are David Valesky, member of the critical IDC, and John DeFrancisco (R). Both of these Senators have been contacted by members of the NY 4 Democracy coalition, but they need to hear from their constituents during regular business hours to know that the people are behind such a resolution.

Senator DeFrancisco's phone number is 315-428-7632 and his email address is jdefranc@nysenate.gov.

Senator Valesky is supportive, but encouragement from folks is helpful to strengthen his own efforts to help us get a resolution to Congress passed. His phone number is 315-478-8745 and his email address is valesky@nysenate.gov.

If you do not know which is your Senator, you can us this map to zoom in on your neighborhood and find out. Make sure you click on "upper house" first. http://openstates.org/ny/

The American people have overturned bad Supreme Court decisions before, and we can do it again. We only need citizens like you who do not wish to become enslaved by the corporate state. Please call your state Senator today.
