Christopher West, cartographer from such well-known products as Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars and D20 Modern role-playing games, is launching a Kickstarter for three sci-fi maps.
- "Mass Transit IV" is a continuation of his most popular map series themed around the transportation of goods and passengers. It will showcase a single specific AR-37 Transport Ship named "The Nova Eclipse", in an unprecedented level of detail. Both levels of this twin-deck starship, and its hull surface, are presented on this double-sided poster using a subtle 1-inch grid for gameplay with miniatures. If he can raise $3000 (to fund the print run, cover cards, packaging, shipping, and related expenses), Mass Transit IV will see print. Additionally, talented Star Wars artist Jeff Carlisle has offered to illustrate the Nova Eclipse. If his work is complete before the end of the funding period, his image will be included as part of the poster.
- If the Kickstarter manages to double that amount, raising $6000 before the end of the funding period, Chris will also print the "Alien Starship Tiles". This set of twelve double-sided cards (along with two sheets of bonus terrain inside their front and back cover cards) can be used to construct all manner of living alien ships--a bio-engineered invasion fleet just waiting to be explored!
- Finally, if the Kickstarter can actually raise $9000 before time runs out, one additional product ready to print and offer up as a reward for backers: A double-sided poster called "Deck Space." For years players have been asking Chris to produce a poster containing an empty field of deck plating as the basis for the creation of custom terrain maps. This is that product, and more: One side is a field of empty deck that perfectly matches my "Sci-Fi Cargo Tiles" product. With those tiles (or the sheet of 13 cargo items included on the back of this poster's cover card), you can set the stage for a different encounter location every time you use the map. The back side is similar, but matches the railway system running through my Mass Transit maps to form a larger, customizable battleground.
When you select a reward package that includes more than one map product, you may choose from the new products funded by this Kickstarter drive, and/or from Chris' in-stock individual poster maps and terrain card sets listed in his map store at http://www.mapsofmastery.com/store.html
Shipping for these products is free. Even international orders will be shipped at no additional charge. That said, if backers from other countries would like to add $10 to their pledge as a courtesy to help offset the extra expense on Chris' end, it would be appreciated.
Every backer will receive access to downloadable PDF copies of the maps that are printed through this funding drive. If the Kickstarter fund all three products, backers will get all three sets of PDF files.
There are other bonus rewards in the works if the Kickstarter pass certain benchmarks, like custom dice with the Nova Eclipse insignia on one face, or downloadable PDF versions of the maps with different features. If those additional rewards are unlocked, all backers will have them automatically included with their map(s) at no extra charge.
As of this publication's date the project was at just over $4,000 with nine days to go. It ends on March 5 at 11:59 p.m. so be sure to participate if you want to see it reach all of the above goals.
