Want a tequila experience? Point me in the direction of Albuquerque!

The largest tequila tasting of its kind in the southwest U.S. returns next weekend after a hiatus of nearly eight years, promising tequila aficionados -- or those with a casual interest -- the opportunity to taste and learn about tequilas available in New Mexico, one of the first places in the U.S. where tequila was made available, according to event organizers.

Excitement has been building around the New Mexico International Intimate Tequila Tasting™ (NMIITT) for months, and yesterday organizers slashed ticket prices to meet public demand, allowing everyone access to experience the wide variety of tequilas available in the state. For only $50 (online and group discounts are also available), a full array of tequilas (as well as mezcal and sotol) available in New Mexico will be available to taste on Saturday, July 23rd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm (with awards handed out at 7:30pm) at the elegant Nativo Lodge in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Organizers Mike Morales (the country’s only tequila journalist, blogging and reporting exclusively on the trends, producers, insiders, and hottest brands in the tequila industry today) and Dagny Morales (Agave Mistress and Creative Founder of Wellness Success Solutions) are proud to bring this event back to New Mexico, where, in addition to sampling a wide-variety of tequila, your “taste buds [will] be dazzled and enlivened by tequila-infused fare. Spokespersons from each tequila brand will be on hand to field questions, add lively conversations and teach proper tequila tasting techniques.”

Residents of New Mexico have been without an event like this for many years. It was with a heavy heart that Mike Morales and other organizers of the Fifth Annual New Mexico International Tequila Experience canceled the popular event – one of the first of its kind in the entire country. In a 2004 press release, spokesperson Mindy Green cited “a controversial law in New Mexico that prevents non-employees of establishments to sample spirits to the public,” for the cancellation. Luckily, for residents and visitors to one of the most beautiful states in the southwest, the economic and political climate has changed, and the New Mexico International Intimate Tequila Tasting™ rises from the ashes and promises “a new kind of tequila experience: one that emphasizes education, information, and above all, fun!”

In addition to the tequila tasting, attendees are also invited to watch as awards are handed out to brands participating in a “Historic Tequila Tasting Competition conducted by former members of the prestigious Academia Mexicana del Tequila (Mexican Tequila Academy).” Awards will be handed out on the date of the event at 7:30pm; a preliminary list of judges and their credentials are listed on the NMIITT website.

Don’t miss out on the fun and make sure to be a part of this amazing opportunity to learn all about tequila and the other fine spirits of Mexico. For information on phenomenal past shows, log onto www.tequilaexperience.com (note that this website was unavailable at press time, but a gallery of past shows is available at www.nmiitt.com/Gallery.html).

I hope to be able to join all New Mexico tequila enthusiasts at this exciting event!

More information is available on the Facebook event page and the official NMIITT website.
