Want a Cocker?

Cocker Spaniels can be absolutely delightful, and just because they're a purebred, doesn't necessarilly mean having one will strip your bank account.

Organizations such as the Dallas Fort Worth Cocker Spaniel Rescue has beautiful dogs available for adoption. What would you like? A wonderful, gentle senior? A rambunctious youngster? Blonde? Black? Parti-colored?

On Saturday, February 11, the Rescue will have a "Meet and Greet" at PetSmart, located at 150 Lincoln Square in Richardson, Texas, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (817/274-2842) as well as the PetSmart at 8676 State Hwy 121 in McKinney, Texas (same hours, 214./383-0253).

On Sunday, February 12, the Rescue will hold another adoption at PetSmart, 2800 Highway 121 in Euless, Texas, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (817/545-7585).

The weekend of February 10-12 is PetSmart's National Adoption Weekend, throughout the country. The pet store mega-chain has certainly taken an active role in realizing the dream of a "no kill nation," hosting adoption events that have placed more than 5-million animals in their forever homes. A quick Google search provides the location and telephone numbers for dozens of PetSmart store throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Cockers have no problem mugging for the camera. On February 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Valentine's Pet Pictures are being taken for $10 at Barney's Ranch in Carrollton, Texas (214/642-8703). Sweet Heart Photos are available February 12 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Three Dog Bakery in Southlake, Texas, for a $20 donation (817/310-3DOG).
