Wanna lose 20 pounds real quick??? Try smoking crack!!!

NO!  Of course I am not serious, but that is how I feel sometimes when I hear about the new fad diet of the month.  Whether its South Beach, Atkins, Cabbage Soup or HCG, whenever a new diet comes around, I am hit with the same questions.

First, I am not a fan or follower of any diet.  I lost 63 pounds the old fashion way…eating clean, hard work and dedication.  Sure, you can lose 20 pounds by eating nothing but cabbage soup, but are you REALLY going to follow that diet to keep the weight off?  You absolutely can lost weight on the Atkins diet, but how healthy is a diet that encourages bacon and fatty foods?  The HCG diet will help you drop pounds fast, but what health benefits can you expect from a diet that DISCOURAGES exercise and a daily consumption of 500 calories?  Someone actually asked me about the HCG diet within the past month.  I told them it was not a smart idea and advised against it.  2 weeks later, the FDA put out a warning about the diet http://vitals.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/06/9253651-fda-warns-against-hcg-hormone-diet-pill-fad .

My point is, any ‘diet’ can be looked at as a quick fix and help you lose weight…but so will smoking crack or shooting heroin!  Your main concern should be is this diet HEALTHY and something that I can maintain for longer than 30 days.

Heres a secret...you CAN eat carbs!  Some staples of my diet are Arnold brand Double Protein Bread http://www.arnoldbread.com/Products/Description.aspx?sSku=7341001374 and Barilla Pasta  http://www.barillaus.com/Pages/Product-Landing.aspx?brandID=5.  You can have ‘sweets’.  Peanut butter and protein bars can easily feed your urges.  That, along with fish, chicken, brown rice, green tea, turkey, egg whites, fresh fruit & greens AND a moderate amount of exercise will help you lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF!!!  Toss in your favorite spices and marinades, and you will beat the boredom that some people find when changing their eating habits.

In October 2009, I visited my doctor for an asthma checkup. I weighed 233 pounds and was on high blood pressure medication. A year later, after a self imposed diet and fitness routine, I weighed 170 pounds and no longer need blood pressure meds. After months of being the ‘go to guy’ for...
