Barbara Walters is still hospitalized, but now has the chicken pox. On Jan. 28, her co-host on "The View", Whoopi Goldberg, reported that Walters now has chicken pox. Yes folks, the 83-year-old newswoman is suffering with an illness that most of us got as children. Barbara was already in the hospital for a fall she sustained 10 days ago at a pre-inaugural party in Washington. She developed a fever and then was diagnosed with chicken pox.
Walters was transferred from the Washington hospital she was in after she fell to a New York Hospital. She is hoping to go home soon. Goldberg announced on "The View" on Monday:
"You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest, she's not allowed any visitors, and we're telling you, Barbara — no scratching."
Even though the chicken pox infection is not considered to be life-threatening, it can be more serious in adults than for children. Adults can at times have complications as a result of the chicken pox such as pneumonia, according to the European Respiratory Journal. There has been no report as to when Barbara might be back at work at "The View", but she did put out a statement last week thanking all her viewers who had expressed concern.
