Barbara Walters called Jessica Simpson a "victim" in the wake of John Mayer's controversial Playboy interview during Monday morning's "Celebrities in Crisis" segment on The View.
Jessica Simpson's publicist and celebrity scandal crisis manager Cindi Berger appeared on The View to discuss an array of celebrity scandals, and co-host Sherri Shepherd asked her what advice she had given Simpson about responding to Mayer's controversial statements about her being like "sexual napalm" in bed.

"Um, you're gonna laugh," said Berger looking across The View coffee table at Barbara Walters. "She's booked on The View, and Barbara Walters is gonna be on that day so I'm sure Barbara will ask her those questions."
Despite Berger's statement that John Mayer's Playboy interview was a good reminder to celebrities that "no journalist is your friend," Walters made it clear that she's already entering into the Jessica Simpson interview with a readily admitted bias: "She's the victim in this case," said Walters. "She's-she didn't do anything wrong."
Berger gave some insight into how John Mayer's Playboy interview went awry: "He clearly felt very comfortable in speaking to the writer who I actually know and he, um gave a lot of information. Too much information. Also, the story was a Q and A so his answers, his responses were his words."
Berger guessed that John Mayer's Playboy interview had taken place without guidance from his publicist.
"Sometimes publicists get a phone call after the interview is over and you have to get a Hoover and clean up the mess," said Berger.
The View has not yet announced when Jessica Simpson will appear.
