Walter Trout tribute Friday @ Chicago House of Blues

Walter Trout Band

Why have tribute shows for people only after they die? On Friday, Aug. 29 at 10:00 p.m. the Chicago House of Blues will feature a tribute to Walter Trout for a mere $10.00. Walter is recovering from a liver transplant. And who better to be part of the tribute than his son and one of his protégé’s.

Walter’s own band will be fronted by UK guitarist Danny Bryant and will also feature his son Jon Trout on guitar. Walter’s band members feature Sammy Avila on keyboards, Michael Leasure on drums and Rick Knapp on bass. For a sample of Danny’s music click on http://www.dannybryant.com/free-download/.

Rick Knapp has played with several legendary blues artists, including Carey Bell, Bo Diddley and Sam Lay before joining Walter in 2005.

Michael Leasure played with Edgar Winter before joining Walter in 2008.

Sammy Avila has been with Walter since 2001 after playing with a vast array of acts in the L.A. club circuit.

Danny Bryant’s story is unique. Danny discovered Walter’s music through his parent’s record collection. The then-fifteen-year-old sent a letter to Walter and surprisingly received a phone call from Walter. That was almost twenty years ago. That began a mentor-ship that changed Danny’s life forever. Walter has given Danny lessons and advice ever since. Danny has received support slots, recording sessions and appeared at major international festivals.

For Jon Trout, it’s only natural to follow in his father’s footsteps as a guitarist. This time Danny Bryant is returning the favor and helping out Jon as Walter did for him.

Walter’s new CD “The Blues Came Callin’” was released in June on schedule. Walter didn’t want to change that. Let’s hope that Walter makes a full recovery soon and gets back to doing what he does best, playing music.
