‘Walter E. Smithe, you dream it, we build it.’ Most likely, if you own a television and live in the Chicagoland viewing area, you have sung along with this catchy little jingle. The Walter E. Smithe brothers are hometown customized furniture and home accent providers, offering design services from more than 225 company designers with every purchase. They are also local philanthropists.
The witty brothers have invited Billy Corgan and his Resistance Pro-Wrestling Company to join them in their commercial shenanigans; their newest can be viewed on YouTube. To thank the group for their participation, the Smithe brothers donated $50,000, no small chunk of change to PAWS Chicago.
Not certain who Billy Corgan is? Well he is best known as the Smashing Pumpkins’ singer/songwriter, although he draws a line at smashing Walter E. Smith furniture! In the cute video, Corgan rescues a Walter E. Smithe bar chair from being crushed by a crusher.
Tim Smithe, Chief Marketing Officer for the furniture moguls stated, “Chicagoans have come to expect a certain irreverence from our commercials, and this new spot with Billy Corgan and Resistance Pro certainly delivers on this expectation.” This four-generation furniture company is family owned and operated since 1945; originating on Chicago’s northwest side.
Billy Corgan retorted with, —“I am proud of Resistance Pro’s growing popularity. Tim Smithe and his brothers presented us with the opportunity to share our brand. I’m grateful to the Smithe brothers for their $50,000 donation to PAWS, a charity that is important to me.”
Corgan is all heart when it comes to our furry friends. In fact, he is so proactive that he has helped to solicit over $140,000 for PAWS this year. The Smashing Pumpkins vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter is one of the most compelling celebrities in rock-n-roll. His great success helps him to help this Chicago animal rescue organization. People are apt to pay attention when a compelling figure like Corgan, whose praised bodies of work in the music industry have sold more than 30 million albums and won multiple Grammy Awards besides. This is what homeless animals need – an advocate that catches the public’s attention with his celebrity status. Now maybe more individuals will pay attention to their plight!
The video commercial begins with Corgan entering the wrestling ring with the three Walter E. Smithe brothers donned in their signature suits. The four circle three tall bar chairs, playing a sort of musical chairs. When the music stops, Corgan does not have a chair. He retaliates by inviting three wrestlers from his Resistance Pro wrestling company to take on the brothers Smithe. Corgan cheers on the wrestlers, but when one of the chairs come into play and is in danger of being smashed, he yells, “Wait! That’s a Walter E. Smithe chair!”
The good old-fashioned throw-down will air on television soon. In the meantime, PAWS and all of the animals will benefit from the men’s generosity! Make sure you check out the new commercial when it airs.
