The Disney Parks Blog announced today that “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze will visit Walt Disney World Resort on Memorial Day, May 31, 2010.
DeWyze will make an appearance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (DHS), the location of Disney World’s “The American Idol Experience” attraction.
As part of his visit, DeWyze will participate in a special parade, appearing with Mickey Mouse. That parade is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m on Monday. The route starts near the DHS entrance and moves down Hollywood Boulevard toward the iconic Sorcerer Mickey Hat.
DeWyze’s visit to DHS quickly follows his “American Idol” win Wednesday and the subsequent, also-quick, release of DeWyze’s “I’m Going to Disney World” commercial. That commercial, which features DeWyze singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” and uttering the famous slogan, may be viewed as part of this article.
DeWyze's visit to DHS will overlap somewhat, but not compete, with the second week of Star Wars Weekends that takes place over the extended Memorial Day Weekend holiday. That event takes place between May 28 – 30 at the Studios.
“American Idol” and Disney fans had been waiting for announcement of DeWyze’s visit to Walt Disney World to take place today. Insiders suspected DeWyze’s visit to Walt Disney World would likely take place on Monday, with sites like Studios Central and Orlando Attractions Magazine reporting the rumors via Twitter yesterday.
"Idol" appearances at the Disney theme parks have become somewhat of a tradition following the 2009 grand opening of “The American Idol Experience” at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Both Kris Allen and David Cook, as well as other “Idol” participants, have visited Walt Disney World to celebrate their accomplishments.
