More big changes are coming to the Walt Disney World Resort! Construction is due to start in April on the three-year transformation to the Downtown Disney area, which will become Disney Springs. Drawing on the beauty and charm of the waterfront, the complex will include four open air neighborhoods connected by a flowing spring.
- The Town Center will offer a blend of contemporary and cosmopolitan where guests can enjoy shopping, dining, and a walkway with sitting areas for relaxation.
- The Landing will feature a kaleidoscope of color providing a perfect backdrop for shops and restaurants with lakeside views.
- Continuing the tradition of family-friendliness, the Marketplace will offer an over-the-water walkway for guests and a newly expanded World of Disney Store.
- As a hub of entertainment, the West Side of Disney Springs will be a lively and high-spirited district that features elevated platforms for shade and opportunities for a new perspective of viewing the activity below.
Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, says “Featuring distinctive brands, world-class restaurants and unforgettable entertainment, Disney Springs will be brought to life with the same focus on storytelling and attention to detail that goes into our theme parks, resorts and cruise ships, resulting in a welcoming space that only Disney could create.”
Upon completion of the project in 2016, Disney Springs will be home to more than 150 stores, dining locations, and other areas for guests. That will more than double the current number of establishments offered.
