Instead, they are directed to a checkout page that states, "Your information is secure and you'll be able to complete your order shortly. We're working on getting you to the next step in checkout. Thanks for your patience."
UPDATE: At approximately 10 p.m. ET, the Walmart.com site came back online. However, customers are still having issue placing orders or accessing certain pages of the site.
The checkout page appears despite the fact that a purchase cannot be made. The site cannot be accessed at all from a computer or tablet. However, it seems that their mobile site is working.
Walmart customer Ashley C. told this Examiner that she was able to access the site via her Android phone.
"It directed me immediately to the mobile site when I tried to access it from my phone, but I could not get onto Walmart.com from my computer."
Since Black Friday, Walmart has been a popular destination for online shoppers.
The retail giant is offering doorbuster-type deals all week long including big discounts on HDTVs, Xbox One bundles, Play Station 4 bundles, discounted iPad bundles and deals on toys.
As of 9:20 p.m. ET, there was no word on the company's Twitter account about the site outage.
