It just doesn't pay to steal when you're on the job. That's what Penny S. Winters is learning now that she's facing a Walmart snack charge. In fact, she has been hit with a felony charge for theft after it was discovered she had been eating Oreos off store shelves as she worked. ABC News shared the details on Feb. 22.
It seems that Winters, 63, didn't snack on the Oreos just once or twice. In fact, she admits she's been doing this for years. The Walmart snack charge came after an open package was found at the Portgage, Ind. store and an investigation was done. Video surveillance was checked, and Winters was busted.
Penny Winters admits that she has been stealing food once or twice a week from the Portage store, where she has worked for seven months. She also admits that she regularly did the same thing at a Tucson, Ariz. location where she previously worked. She didn't limit herself to Oreos, it seems, as she also admitted to taking chips, sandwiches, gum and chocolate.
Winters now admits it was wrong and said it wouldn't happen again, but Walmart fired her and she's facing charges over it. She worked for the retail giant for about seven years. Clearly Penny Winters didn't see much wrong with the snacking as she did it for so long, but one would imagine she is thinking twice now that the Walmart snack charge has her facing felony theft.
