A Walmart shopping cart DUI got a man arrested in Florida this past weekend. The Florida man got a DUI for driving a motorized shopping cart at the Brooksville Walmart it seems. According to a report from Monday (Feb. 4), Timothy Carr will face charges of disorderly intoxication as well as felony retail theft stemming from this incident.
Typically, someone getting arrested for a DUI is no laughing matter, but this may be one of those rare cases that suspends the rule. Apparently Carr was driving around the store while drunk and ended up heading over to the section where alcoholic beverages are kept. He then opened one of them and began drinking from it; all while knocking other items off of store shelves.
This isn't the first time that Carr has been arrested for retail theft and because this is his third offense it makes this crime a felony. There is going to be a debate about whether the punishment really fits the crime here, especially because Carr is considered a transient. It will certainly send a message if he has to spend time in jail, but this also isn't the typical case that police have to deal with.
It seems that in the city of Brooksville, Florida, a Walmart shopping cart DUI really is no laughing matter.
