Glenn Beck
When I first reported on the "Glenn Beck Boycott" last Saturday, only five sponsors had been bullied into dropping their ads from Glenn Beck's program.
As of today, the number has grown to twenty, and now includes Walmart, CVS and Best Buy, in addition to companies like ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men’s Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.
The addition of Walmart to the list is particularly amusing and/or pathetic. The leftwing busybodies taking part in the Glenn Beck boycott are exactly the same types who typically avoid shopping at Walmart, and even lead campaigns to keep the stores out of their neighborhoods. So in this particular instance, the notion of a "boycott" is a joke. Walmart shoppers are much more likely to be Glenn Beck fans. Period.
Leftwing incoherence is a given, of course, but in this instance, it is glaring. The same "progessives" who sincerely believe that the world is run by a handful of mega-sized, super-powerful, uncaring corporations have just managed to get over a dozen of them to do their Chomskyite bidding, just by sending some angry emails!
Don't expect any liberals to "get" the irony, though.
As I said before, this boycott isn't even really a boycott, because the advertisers have simply shifted their ad buys from Glenn Beck's program to other shows on FOX News. Nobody is losing money or spending less. They're just humoring the boycotters until they turn their attention to a new trendy cause.
Besides: Glenn Beck's ratings -- in his lousy 5PM ET time slot, no less -- are astronomically high. And his viewers and listeners are loyal, and activists in their own way. Their counter-boycott will be much more successful in the long run.
I give this story another couple of weeks, then ColorOfChange.org will quietly cave, after declaring some kind of dubious, face-saving "victory."

I was a Walmart shopper. After reading this, I am not.

Color of Change is claiming that WalMart, CVS, BestBuy, and Allergan have "pulled" their ads. It appears that only Allergan has actually confirmed this. BestBuy has not, and strangely, WalMart and CVS were not even sponsors of Glenn's to begin with!
Also: the Best Buy language merely matches the language of others, such as Roche, who on 8/12 told CoC their ads were "a mistake", yet Roche ads ran on Glenn's show on 8/14. This is the type of double talk which the Left gets all excited, but means nothing. Roche confirmed to us yesterday that they would continue to advertise on Beck.
the teachable moment - When you insenuate that most police & doctor are racist, like Obama does, and you're black, no applogies and the press forgives you. Call a spade a spade and you're White and get fried for it. leason learned, I'll be quite big brother.

It IS a big deal. The look on Blech's face in the photo says it all. Sorry KKKons, Blech stuck his foot into his piehole a little too far this time.
I used to think the Geraldo Rivera was an aberration. Geraldo doesn't hold a CANDLE to Glenn Beck. His show gets ratings? Well SURE, so would the Train Wreck Channel if one were available.
The only joke is you and this article. OK, and maybe that bright red lipstick you are wearing in your photo.
Maybe Blech will remember to take his lithium from now on, and there will be lass noise on FAUX's airwaves. Then again, given how popular his psychotic rantings are, maybe not.
RethugliKKKon,
All the liberals whining and pleading for the boycotts are having to deal with the backlash of Glenn Beck's fans. These fans are watching Beck even more religiously than before. Color of Change may have caused some of beck's advertiser's to switch from his program to other Fox programs, but they certainly were unable to affect the show's ratings!
We have a Target, a Bakers, a Bag and Save, several HyVees, a Super Saver, and several more at about the same distance, about the same prices, produce as good as or better, meat that is better....Your choice, Walmart. You can use google to see what kind of a friend you lost.

I thought Walmart shoppers were just looking for low prices on everyday products.
Please do not associate Burger King, Walmart, or Blockbuster video with political associations.
This a great article that elegantly underscores some glaring liberal blindspots. And I think kathy Shaidle looks just great in red lipstick!
I like Walmart. This will play out and be over very soon, just as Kathy predicted. Capitalism will win, freedom will triumph. You'll see me in my neighborhood Wally-mart again tomorrow.
Nobody here, or in the article seem to talk about what Beck said that got him in trouble. He said that the President is a racist, and has a hatred of "white culture".
Are people here actually willing to engage in a dialogue about how insane these statements are? Or his little skit where he talked about murdering the US Speaker of the House of Representatives?
Personally, I'd simply like for them to explain to me how Beck hammered the US healthcare industry last year, even saying it tried to kill him, and as of this month he keeps talking it up ("We have the best healthcare system in the world").
This guy is probably the biggest fruitcake to hit TV EVER.
Living in PA, I am also quite disturbed by his violent rhetoric and it's connection to the killing of 3 police officers in Pittsburgh. Apparently the murder was a HUGE Beck fan, and posted video of this froot loop on the web.
I think its healthy people are fighting back against the busy bodies. Using their feet to vote as well as the wallet.
I figure there a lot of lights going on in folks heads these days. Over the ugly events created by Obamas minions.
Going after Beck is just gonna make him bigger. I love the irony.
You pegged this leftist herd mentality pretty good Kathy. Good article.

Obama appeared on the front cover of his church magazine with Louis Farrakhan, who calls Jews "gutter people" Obama calls Farrakhan a "great man". . . .
Obama was a 20 year member of a White hating/Jew hating church (Trinity), that donates money to the Nation Of Islam, a racist hate group. . .
Obama called his own grandmother a "typical white person", implying that all white people are "fearful" . . . . . . . .
Also -- In his speeches, Obama has spent more time attacking White Americans . than he has spent attacking Islamic terrorists ...... and now he's attacking white police officers.
The excuse of, "he won , let's move on", doesn't cut it, and it doesn't change the facts. . .
Obama is a racist.
Obama and all of his supporters and voters are anti-Semitic, anti-American, anti-Free Speech haters. These companies boycotting Glenn Beck are wittingly or unwittingly in league with detestable haters and traitors while depending on US, every day Americans, for their profits. I will make a point of going into WalMart where I (used to) shop 2 - 3 times a week and tell them why I will NO LONGER. Pro-American my ass. Sam Walton would spin in his grave.
You are using Color of Change as a credible source for your articles? HA ha ha. Best Buy, for one, denied categorically that they are boycotting Beck. Why don't you post your sources for your info, rather than blather on with rumors?
Where is Freedom of Speech? I will personally boycott all companies that are currently boycotting Glenn Beck. Walmart in particular will be hurt because I do all my shopping there. I will only return to these companies when they show support for Glenn again. Glenn is trying to get the American people to open there eyes and think for themselves. It is vital that we question authority and have the free speech to do it. This is the principle of our founding fathers, otherwise we are just like every other struggling country in this world--not unique nor successful. Wake up America!!! My family on both sides are immigrants and came to America to escape poverty and persecution--don't let their bravery be in vain.
Re:Barb & Freedom of Speech
Freedom of speech is alive and well, Barb, and not threatened in the least.
Not a single advertiser has the desire nor the power to take Beck's freedom of speech. They have the right to associate their name with whomever they want.
If FOX fired him he would still have freedom of speech, he just wouldn't have the same public access through FOX which is a BUSINESS, not a right.
In a free country the companies, the media, and individuals all have rights. I wouldn't want to live in a country that forced businesses to associate with anybody.
The ratings of someone aren't going to matter much if it costs them too much money. No advertisers have left FOX yet, just Beck, so they haven't lost a dime.
You can spend your money where you want, just like the advertisers.
I was on the radio for years and by law you CANNOT just say anything you want on the air, there are rules. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't have the faintest idea what they are talki
I have decided that in order to protest effectively I am going to mail a check directly to the Chinese military and cut out the middle man at WalMart.
Regarding Walmart policy. The Walmart today isn't the same company college students learned about 20 years ago. Products on Walmart shelves are shipped from China, even an American manufactured product needs to be packaged in China and shipped to the US so they can handle their own distribution. The exception is bread, milk and the like where companies stock their own product and pay shelf rent. I stopped going to Walmart when I learned about these practices (Fremont Ohio). Universal packaging went under because Walmart insisted that Wilton (baking stuff) have all their packaging done in China. Then Walmart renewed a longterm lease on one side of town and built a superstore on the other. Killed the east side. They kill mom and pop businesses then the out of work employees need to shop at the stores that hurt them. US Chamber bows to their largest contributor, Walmart and profits go to the family at the expense of American jobs that are now in China. Wow, we need help!
Well..that list of boycotters is the same list of companies who likely receive governmental cutbacks. Wonder if it was really so "voluntary" that they drop their advertisement/sponsorship after all. I'm just not a big Obama fan. And he is racist. And so is that pathetic heinous wife of his.
This is where the right wings wackos hang out.
This is not political journalism. This is a poorly written opionion article at best. But, even a good opionion piece is balanced and includes sources. I bet you complian about the bias media too, don't you?
