Apple never anticipated that the new iPhone 5C, which hit the market at a lower price than other iPhones, would have even bigger price cuts by retailers. The Verge reported on Oct. 4, 2013, "iPhone 5C goes on sale at more retailers, drops to $45 on contract at Walmart." Retailers have continued to cut the price of the more affordable iPhone 5C ever since it was released by Apple just two weeks ago.
Walmart has dropped the 16GB iPhone 5C to $45 when it is purchased with a two-year contract. The spectacular promotion will last until the end of the holiday season. The news followed shortly after Best Buy announced a promotion running through October 7th that allows customers who purchase the phone for $99 to receive a $50 gift card good towards their purchase.
ABC News has reported, "Two Weeks After Launch, Walmart Drops Price of the iPhone 5c to $45 After Best Buy's Offer." There is an iPhone 5C price drop war going on. Sarah Spencer McKinney, director of corporate communications for Walmart, told ABC News, "This is what we do -- low prices is what we do. As a price leader, we are always looking for ways to surprise our customers with low prices and disrupt the competition." Walmart certainly is shaking up the competition with this offer. MandelMall.com also offers Apple products from Amazon at competative prices.
