Wall of Omens: Good omens come easy

Wall of Omens may seem innocuous but it may be one of Rise of the Eldrazi's best cards.

Wall of Omens is an absolutely incredible white wall featured in the Rise of the Eldrazi expansion coming later this month.  I'm going out on a limb here, but Wall of Omens is probably one of the best cards out of Rise of the Eldrazi that we've seen so far, and likely one of the best that we will see. Period.  Let's take a look at Wall of Omens.

Wall of Omens
1W
Creature - Wall Uncommon
Defender
When Wall of Omens enters the battlefield, draw a card.
0/4

But it's just a wall, right?  Not at all, actually.  Those Magic the Gathering players who remember Wall of Blossoms can attest to how amazing a 0/4 wall for 2 mana that replaces itself can be.  You get a great blocker out of Wall of Omens at zero card cost, and in the context of this block you've got other cards like Perimeter Captain and Vent Sentinel to play up the defender angle.

Wall of Omens is the simple picture of efficiency that is the essence of all that is pure in a Magic the Gathering card and Wall of Omens will see play in every format around.  Competitive players have been looking for something out of Rise of the Eldrazi to "wow" over, and Wall of Omens should snap them out of their slumber.

kraken hatchling is a 0/4 for one blue mana

  • Gary Yadek 2 years ago

Yes, kraken hatchling is. But it doesn't give you a card. Huge difference

it is awesome because it buys control players the time they need to develop their board AND it replaces itself - the "draw a card" portion is arguably the best part.
