Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, lived a life as a carpenter. Jesus had a very simple and modest living, having only what He truly needed – His Love for God the Father. How many of us today truly live in the likeness of Jesus? Can you count all your earthly toys on one hand or perhaps you need a few hands?
Living a simple life is quite difficult to conceptualize for most Americans. What does it mean to live modestly? Well, let me illuminate your senses in terms of humility and decency. Living a simple life could involve many things from your basic eating habits (i.e. going out to dinner versus eating at home) to the model car you decide to purchase at your time of dyer need.
Jesus did not need fancy linens or expensive jewels. The Son of God relied solely on His faith and utmost trust in His Heavenly Father. In all reality, faith and love in our Lord and Savior is all we need too as humans.
We are obviously not on the same level as Jesus, but on many levels lower. There is no comparison between us as complete humans and Jesus as being only in human-form. We earthly beings are incessantly sinful with weaknesses that prohibit us from perfection. However, this is no excuse!
As followers of Jesus, it is our duty to not only believe in Him, but to try to live as He did as well! Stand up from your idleness and have faith. You do not need that Mercedes Sports Utility Vehicle to make you better than the rest. Instead, buy a Toyota Rav 4 for the heck of it. There is no need to go dining in extravagant restaurants every night. How about just buy some groceries and cook a modest dinner for your family instead. Why not take out your wallet and give half of it to a church nearby?
There are so many ways one can manage to live a simple way. It is our obligation to make ourselves as close to Jesus as we can. In order to do so, we need to pray, repent and love Him with all of our heart, souls, minds and strength. Aside from all that, we must try living as He did to better feel as He may have felt. How can we truly know God, if we do not know His Son? How can we honestly know Jesus, if we live a lavished life?
Wake up America. Learn some decency and humbleness. Show some humility towards Christ. It is the very least you can do.
