It seems that southern Californians, especially those in Los Angeles, don't like to walk. With a barely there subway, and tons of freeways, the landscape of LA seems to not inspire people to walk. However, if there is a cause or reason to get on their feet, then people put on their walking shoes. LA Fashion Walk is definitely one of those reasons because it's a whole night dedicated to everything fashion and retail, with a little music and wine for extra flavor. The Downtown Fashion Walk was started about 7 months ago by the LA's own "fashion cowboy" Brady Westwater after the huge successful following of the similar Art Walk.
The Fashion Walk takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month from 6pm- approximately midnight, or until whenever the people disperse. The downtown Los Angeles streets of 4th-6th, Broadway and Main will be used by retailers and designers to display the latest in fashions from all over the world. There are several participating boutiques that take part and have extended store hours on this special night. Z Loft Boutique, 1 Man's Trash, Flea, Kapsoul, and Crack Gallery are just some of the fashion stores that will be partaking in this monthly affair. Some of the boutiques feature a DJ providing good music and also serve wine to help enhance one's shopping experience. There are even street vendors that set up,market style, in some of the old bank buildings and create sort of an indoor fashion market. The prices are always significantly less than retail and can usually be bargained!
The next Fashion Walk in LA is April 15th, 2010. For more information, check out the website www.downtownfashionwalk.com or contact the coordinator Brady Westwater.
