The last episode of "The Walking Dead" was an emotional one, especially when Danai Gurira, the actress who plays Michonne, held baby Judith and started to cry. Fans have come to the conclusion that she must have lost a child of her own. On Oct. 24, Wet Paint revealed that the actress discussed babies, the possibility of a "Richonne" romance and the Governor.
Michonne is known for being tough and guarded, so it was a definite surprise when she reacted the way she did to Beth asking her to hold baby Judith. At first she looked away and flatly said no. But then she agreed and slowly began to look at the child. Then she held her close and started to cry. While Danai Gurira was not able to divulge any information on the past of her character or if it involved children, a fan on Facebook did say that in the comic books, she did have a daughter who was killed by walkers in a rather gruesome way.
The actress also told Access Hollywood that Michonne is feeling connected to the group and that the bond will make her confront her past. She said,
“She keeps escaping and getting on her horse and going into her sort of man cave adventure and there is a point to that, but there’s also a point to staying connected to the community and not leaving two seconds after she gets in."
"So, there’s something about having to really kind of face some stuff that you’re [forced] to do when you can’t move. … Whatever that stuff [was], we’ll see, but that moment, I think, was definitely the culmination of her having to stay in one spot for a minute.”
It seems that the people that Michonne are closest to in season 4 of "The Walking Dead" are Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl (Chandler Riggs.) There have even been rumors that there is going to be a Richonne romance in store for viewers. So what does Gurira say about Michonne and Rick possibly getting together?
“I always say I appreciate folks want Michonne to get some. You know what I’m sayin’? I appreciate that for Michonne and I think that it’s great. It’s great that they’re seeing some sort of a chemistry or connection between characters that makes them want to see that come to fruition.”
So far fans have not seen the Governor in season 4, but he will be appearing, viewers just don't know when. Even with everything else going on, the Governor (David Morrissey) is still her main target. Danai says about Michonne's feelings about the Governor,
“It’s beyond anger, it’s beyond revenge. … She knows he’s a sociopath… She’s gonna say this guy needs to be brought down and he’s a liability to the people that I care about, he’s a liability to the prison that he’s still out there and we haven’t brought him down yet.”
What do you think about what Danai Gurira said about Richonne and the Governor? Do you think her reaction to holding baby Judith has to do with her losing a child in her past?
