"Walking Dead" costumes and anything about zombies continue to be the most popular Halloween costumes into 2013. According to Herald Dispatch Sept. 22, "popular TV shows continue to feed the zombie craze."
Ken Fox, owner of Magic Makers National Costume Supply House with co-owner, Ken Epperly, said he's seen just about every trend come and go, but Halloween costumes for zombies continues to have a stronghold.
"There were 18th Century vampires for a couple years," he said. "Then Johnny Depp caused two or three cycles of pirates and mad hatters and now -- zombies."
Fox credits the success of "The Walking Dead" as well as Brad Pitt's new movie, "World War Z" to the zombies obsession. It tops the most popular Halloween costumes on the market out there.
"Zombies are truly everywhere you look," Fox said. "They are even in insurance commercials. Did they have auditions for the best 'ear falling off' actor? Did they have zombie models at fashion week in New York last week?"
Fox added that the appeal of zombie costumes is the simplicity of creating them. Any old clothes and gross make-up can make someone appear as a zombie on Halloween. It doesn't require a great deal of effort on perfect makeup like several costumes do.
Fox continued, "Slap on any grey or green base, add wounds, blood or that essential accessory -- glue-on fake maggots, which we sell. With the recent Brad Pit movie 'World War Z,' and even more movies on the way, we should see a whole new wave of zombies this Halloween."
If someone cannot decide what "Walking Dead" character or anyone else specific to be, people can opt for a big bag of zombie parts!
Halloween costumes will make a zombie statement with severed blue zombie feet, hands, zombie teeth, rotting teeth, fake fingernails, green ooze, lipstick, and dead flesh grey make-up. If you want to get creative and more graphic, a zombie make-up kit consists of green slime rot, ripped out heart, fake wounds, and intestines. Even glow-in-the-dark maggots can be part of the costume!
