'Walking Dead': Dramatically changed characters in second half of season 4

"The Walking Dead" mid-season finale was intense and at the end of "Too Far Gone" the group had to flee the prison, all going in different directions. So where does this leave everyone now? A Dec. 6 report by Wet Paint reveals that the second half of the season will feature "dramatically changed" characters.

Warning: If you do not want to know "The Walking Dead" season 4 spoilers, then stop reading.

With the group separated, nobody knows where the others are. Did they make it to safety? Will they ever see each other again? Will they make it through the wilderness alive or will they be eaten by zombies? Will they see a beloved group member as a walker, like they did with Sophia?

No matter what happens, Rick and the group are not going to be the same. Robert Kirkman said,

“I think a lot of these characters are going to come out of this group of episodes dramatically changed from how they’ve been.”

There is no information about how the characters will be changed, but here are some theories:

Rick will obviously be hardened from the experience. He has gone through changes in each season and the second half of season 4 is no different. He believes that his baby daughter is dead and they have lost their sense of security and each other. There is also no time to grieve properly and the only real good thing is having his son with him. But he will still be hardened by this.

Carl is older now and will have to take on more responsibility to survive. Growing up in the zombie apocalypse would probably make any kid numb, but with the high death count it is probably the safest way to be.

Like Rick, Daryl has also gone through some changes. He went from being an angry loner who didn't care about anyone else to being Rick's right hand man. He got close with the group, especially Carol and he had a knack for soothing baby Judith. But he knows that Rick sent Carol away and wasn't too happy about it. He might spend the time out in the wilderness looking for Carol. He is an expert tracker... perhaps he can track her, too. He might not want to have anything to do with Rick after this, but if he does, he will probably harbor a lot of resentment.

When viewers first met Michonne she barely spoke, was distrustful, even of those who tried to help her and wouldn't let anyone in. This changed in season 4. While she wasn't completely meshed in with the prison residents, she did seem to enjoy keeping company with Rick, Carl and Hershel. She even smiled a few times. So what will happen with her character now? It seems that the one person who would be able to keep baby Judith safe out there would be Michonne. While she will be aware and distrustful of those she doesn't know, she will probably want her friends back. If she happens to have baby Judith, fans will likely see a more maternal, softer side of her in between her fending off the zombies.

Who knows what Carol has had to deal with while out on her own. Sure, Rick gave her a car and supplies, but there are a lot of dangers out there and they aren't always walkers. Some people aren't very nice and a woman traveling alone out there is not the safest thing to do. The one thing on her side is she has gotten really good handling knifes and is a good shot. She may never trust again and as far as Rick saying she will find another group... that is ridiculous. She doesn't want another group, she wants the one that she has been in from the beginning. Rick's words were pretty harsh. He told her that even if they were the only people left, he wouldn't want her near him and couldn't let her be around his kids. She seemed so hurt by that, especially considering her intentions were to save the others.

He is one of the newer additions to the group and his emotions about the murder of his girlfriend is still pretty fresh. He isn't as rageful as he was before the prison attack, but he isn't back to the way he was either. There are fans saying that he might end up with Carol out there, but there is no confirmation on that and it might be a while before the two meet up. It's doubtful that Carol will tell him what she did to his girlfriend, so she is safe until they meet up with the others.

Sasha and Tyreese are siblings and they should be together but they may have gotten separated. She was always tough, but calm. However, this prison attack and losing the others could affect her deeply. She may become angry and shut down emotionally. It is not known if she will be with Tyreese or not, but if they are separated, that will intensify her emotional and physical fears.

As far as viewers know, Glenn was on the bus while Maggie went to look for baby Judith. He was still very ill and weak. He had great pain on his face when Maggie left. He was worried and it turns out, he had good reason to. She never made it back to the bus so now the lovebirds are separated for the first time. When he does recover there is no telling what he will be like, but fans have already seen him as a weak kid who was a follower and didn't stand up for himself until he morphed into a man, a leader and even had a few bursts of anger. But depression hasn't hit him yet. Without Maggie by his side and losing the others, he may start to lose hope.

Maggie has always been pretty strong, especially emotionally. Being with Glenn opened her up a bit and it definitely brought her joy in a world of doom. She could still remain strong but she witnessed the execution of her father, who she loved dearly. She will most likely become rageful like Tyreese was and may take it out on anything and anyone she encounters.

Beth was the sweet, innocent daughter of Hershel. While at the beginning of season 4 she did show that she was becoming numb when it came to the deaths of others, she was still a sweet girl when it came to everything else. Like Maggie, she also witnessed the beheading of her father. She was also the one who always looked after baby Judith. Viewers don't know if she has the baby or not, but there is a strong chance that fans won't see the sweet, soft-spoken, shy girl anymore. Instead they will probably see one pissed off teenager.

Baby Judith

Rick and Carl think that baby Judith is dead, but most viewers no better. The car seat did have blood on it, but the buckles appeared to be undone rather than ripped or torn. Locals who live near the filming locations have stated recently that there are twin baby girls on the set. Twins or similar looking infants are often used for one baby character because of child labor laws and filming time constraints.

Do you agree with the "drastically changed" character theories for "The Walking Dead?" Or do you have a different opinion on how they will be in the second half of season 4?
