‘Walking Dead’ breaks record with returning 2013 episode

The popular “Walking Dead” series returned to record breaking viewers with its first showing in 2013. The Denver Post reported on Feb 11 that the show had record breaking views on Sunday. 12.3 million viewers tuned in to watch the highly anticipated episode that was being shown opposite the Grammy’s. The numbers were up from the 10.9 million viewers who watched the season 3 premiere which aired in Oct 2012.

7.7 million of the viewing population were between the ages of 18 and 49. According to Nielson Co., this is the first time a cable series has been able to capture this large of an audience within this age group. These are very impressive numbers considering NCIS on CBS was the most viewed drama on television last week, but fewer than 5 million of that audience was under the age of 50.

The zombie drama was returning from its winter break with 8 all new episodes to finish out the season, according to AMC. Watch the thrilling, Emmy winning series every Sunday night at 8 p.m. CST.
