Walking 60 miles is an incredible feat. Tiffany-Dian Thomas from Bank of America will be walking 60 miles in support of finding a cure for breast cancer and in memory of her mother, poet Gigi Thomas, in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day walk for a cure.
The 60 mile walk will be a personal journey for Thomas as she honors her mother’s courageous fight and the enormous dignity that she displayed as she lost her battle with breast cancer in January of 2009. “I not only want others to be able to fight their battle against breast cancer, but to win,” Thomas said.
Walking 60 miles will not be easy. Walking 60 miles will be a grueling test of human endurance. Thomas has been training for the event by taking weekend preparation walks. She walked 15 miles through D.C. to prepare for the 60 mile walk.
“As a tribute to my mom, Gigi Thomas, Grandmother Kathryn McManus, Aunt Kathryn Rossiter, friend Julie Treuth, and Cousin Veronica Davis, and Kara McCoy, women who are either angels or survivors, I will be wearing a scarf with their names during the 3 day walk,” Thomas said.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk will help support national research and large public health outreach programs. Many companies, like Bank of America in support of Thomas, will provide their employees with matching gifts for donations given in support of the walk.
Thomas has named her Susan G. Komen 3-Day team, Hula Hoops for Hope. She will also pay tribute to loved ones who can be added to her tribute list.
