Most famously is actor James Dean, who died behind the wheel of a Porsche 550 Spyder on September 30, 1955. The car, which was new for the races in Salinas, California, was originally intended to be trailered, but was driven instead to fully break-in the vehicle before the race, and give Dean some extra seat time. The wreck involved an 85 MPH collision with a 1950 Ford Tudor coupe driven by Donald Turnupseed. Passenger, and Porsche trained factory mechanic, Rolf Wütherich, was thrown from the vehicle. Dean suffered fatal injuries.

Back in June of 2011, Jackass star Ryan Dunn died behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3. The investigation revealed that the car had been traveling around 130 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. A speed so fast the autopsy report could not determine if it was the impact itself or the fire that killed the actor.

Shooting guard for the Charlotte Hornets, Bobby Phills died in January of 2000 driving a Porsche 911 when it crashed into the rear of fellow teammate David Wesley at over 75 MPH.
