Nicolas Roeg's cinema has always been driven by the primitive desires at the center of his protagonists, and never is that manifested more clearly than in his 1971 masterpiece 'Walkabout.'
This story of an upper class brother and sister couple abandoned in the desolate outback finds them taken under the wing of an Australian aborigine on his ritualistic coming of age rite, the Walkabout. What follows is a strange dreamlike exploration of culture, class, and innocence. Though directed by Englishman Roeg, 'Walkabout' stands out as a veritable standout of Australian Cinema.
See it Friday, the 20th at 6:30PM showing at the IU Cinema.
